Locum Tenens Process
Locum Tenens Providers are independent contractors. Healthcare Connections would pay for and provide your malpractice insurance. Our clients are responsible for all travel and lodging to and from an assignment. Below is the locum tenens process from start to finish!

Step One
The Process Starts by Having a Conversation with an Experienced HCC Recruiter
- An experienced recruiter at Healthcare Connections will reach out to discuss your qualifications, previous experience, current work situation, preferences, and availability.
- This gives us an opportunity to get to know you and gives you an opportunity to ask us any questions you may have about us, the market for your specialty, or locum tenens in general.

Step Two
Opportunity Identified that Fits Your Needs
- Your recruiter will reach out about the details of the position.
- Review assignment details, including location, duration, compensation, and responsibilities.

Step Three
Interested in a Position – Give us Permission to Submit Your Credentials
- After reviewing possible assignments and are interested in a position, Healthcare Connections will only present your credentials to a client with your permission.
- We take pride in this step and ensure that verbal or written permission is received for every provider we submit to our clients.

Step Four
Interview with Client
- You are not committing yourself to anything until you interview with the client via phone, video, or in-person interview.
- The interview is essential to understanding the client’s situation and clinical expectations. This part in the process should help you to decide on whether to accept the assignment.

Step Five
Acceptance of Position
- Once you interview and decide to accept an assignment offer that aligns with your preferences and schedule you will sign a contract outlining the terms and conditions of the assignment.
- This includes language regarding compensation, housing, travel arrangements, and malpractice insurance coverage.

Step Six
Credentialing, Paperwork, and Privileging
- Our dedicated credentialing team will work with you to make this process as smooth as possible. They will collect your credentialing documents, pre-fill all applications,
- Our team will coordinate and communicate with the client to ensure privileges are approved for your scheduled start date.

Step Seven
Travel and Lodging
- HCC in-house travel department will help coordinate all travel and lodging for your assignment.
- We also want to understand your preferences (hotels, flights, rental cars, etc) to ensure a great travel experience.

Step Eight
Scheduling of Dates and Onboarding
- HCC will provide orientation and first day instructions.
- We will assist with scheduled and possible extensions of assignments.

Step Nine
Continued Communication and Support from HCC
- We will maintain open communication throughout the assignment to ensure a positive experience for all parties.
- We welcome and encourage transparent communication for any issues or concerns that arise during the assignment.

Step Ten
Payroll
- Bi-weekly pay cycle deposited directly into your account.
- Electronic timesheets are completed after each week of work.

Step Eleven
Transition and Next Steps
- Wrap up any remaining responsibilities at the healthcare facility.
- Discuss future assignment opportunities with your recruiter and begin the process for your next assignment.
